We received these amazing permanent markers (Project Popperz), courtesy of Elmer’s, and I’ve been dreaming up ways to use them. This is actually almost as simple as it gets, and N got a huge kick out of “drawing on the table.”
Materials
- Permanent Markers
- Cellophane (I used Cling Wrap)
I covered her art table with cellophane, being sure to overlap the edges by a few inches so the marker wouldn’t poke through the cracks and onto the table. I could have done a neater job laying the Cling Wrap flat on the table to avoid all those bumps that acted like little roadblocks toward the markers. But, it still worked.
Then we opened the markers and started drawing!
We used every color and scribbled away until we decided to switch seats.
N added more marks and then we were ready to hang it.
I simply peeled it off the table and placed it right on the window. No tape necessary! I bet you could also put the cellophane right on the window/s before drawing to give your child the opportunity to draw on the windows. That would be fun! But be sure those window are well-covered first!
I love projects that are easy, use household materials, and change the way we think about art-making. A+ in my book!
It’s stained glass for the 5-and-under crowd! I love it. A wonder: How might paint work on cellophane, then hung on the window? Would the right paint still be translucent? Would paint be too messy? What do you think?
I think paint could work, too. I haven’t tried it, but acrylic would probably work (although it’s not the most desirable paint to use with little kids).

dry erase markers or washable markers may also be fun to do the activity.

If you add elmers glue to paint – or better yet liquid water color, when the paint dries it will be fairly translucent.

Brilliant idea. I am sure we are copying this. How about painting with acrylic colours on it? Will it stick? Or, scrape off? We might try…

What kind of permanent markers did you use for this project? The colors are so bright! The ones we used for our project (as seen on my blog) isn’t that bright… It was an awesome project though! We loved it!

What a fun idea that my daughter will love, I’m sure! Especially when she can see it on the window. Seems less messy for the windows than the Crayola Window Crayons – although we do love those 🙂
As long as the markers stay on the plastic wrap, it’s FAR cleaner than window crayons 🙂 Enjoy.
